Apple Original Films has released the first trailer for Mayday, a genre-bending action comedy starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh. The film premieres globally on Apple TV on September 4, 2026.
Reynolds plays Lieutenant Troy "Assassin" Kelly, a hotshot U.S. Navy pilot sent on a top-secret mission into Russian territory at the height of the Cold War. When the operation goes disastrously wrong, Troy is shot down and stranded behind enemy lines with little hope of rescue. His fate takes an unexpected turn when he's found by Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a gruff former KGB agent with a surprising soft spot for American pop culture.
What follows is an unlikely alliance between the two men — one that could be Troy's only shot at survival, and one that neither of them saw coming. Billed as a film that "flips the spy thriller on its head," Mayday trades classic espionage tension for buddy-comedy chemistry, pairing Reynolds' trademark irreverence with Branagh's commanding screen presence — a contrast that's already generating buzz since the trailer dropped.
The film is co-directed, written, and produced by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the duo behind Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
